HAPPY HALLOWE'EN!!

29 October 2010

Behr Pick: A Fine Friday

It's Friday - HALLELUJAH! I thought this day would never come. But it did, thankfully. Now I know I shouldn't be wishing my life away because this weekend marks the end of the month and is the last weekend before we change the clocks back to standard time. But it's been one helluva slow week for me.

I went to rehearsal again last night to be on book for the actors. This was a last minute rehearsal so only four actors showed up. Quite frankly....it was the right four. First is the beautiful man I cannot help but lust after....he has the largest role and although he has his lines down pat, extra rehearsal is probably welcome. Next is a woman who has a fairly large role too. She has her lines down as well but could work on the actual "acting" part. Next is a friend of mine who has a minor role but can't seem to get the right line in the right place. Finally is this guy who has probably the second largest role...he just cannot seem to get it together. Tonight he used the "mother in the hospital" excuse. I really hope he can pull it together by opening night. So...the director and I read all of the other parts...basically equaling nine other roles! But it was fun and couple of the actors thanked me for being there. Unfortunately Mr. Beautiful Talent wasn't one of them. Did I mention he's beautiful?

This weekend will be quiet for me. I need to do some shopping and really need to get out and clean the garage or work in the yard. I'll probably end up being a lazy ass like usual. Saturday night will be movie night; I will probably watch Sleepy Hollow or the Halloween episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Now that Elvira is back with "Movie Macabre," that's an option as well. Sunday will be busy at the theater so I most likely won't have much of a Halloween, which is a shame because it's a favorite holiday.

Anyone going to a party or some other event? Are you dressing up? Are you passing out candy to trick-or-treaters?

There's something I want to say to all of my U.S. followers: next Tuesday is Election Day. (I know it is because my calendar says so.) It is most important that we all perform our civic duty and vote. I'm not going to tell you which candidates to vote for - or against - or which propositions to support. The important thing to remember is that we are at one of the most critical junctures (sorry!) in terms of equality. If the Republican Teabaggers get elected you can basically kiss any rights good-bye. I know some of the alternatives aren't that great but anyone who supports marriage equality and the repeal of DADT and is anti-DOMA can be counted as an ally. And baby, we need all the allies we can get.

So please....pull out that sample ballot. Do your research on what the candidates stand for - or against - and on Tuesday get there to the polls and VOTE. Because if you don't vote, you have no one to blame for the disappointing outcome.

Behr Pick: Hump Day

You're not going to believe this...I've been bored at work the past two days. It didn't help Monday that I was still not caught up on my sleep. Yesterday I nodded off too. It's kind of embarrassing! I am going to scrounge around for something to do (this does not include the 10 lengthy documents my boss handed to me to read...I know they will put me right to sleep). That's the nature of my job: feast or famine.

Last night I went to rehearsal for the community theater show. They're doing 12 Angry Jurors. Great play. Great movie. Not sure I care for the mixed gender cast but I'm not the director. It was the cast's first night off book. Boy oh boy did it suck! But I tell you...it doesn't matter because there is eye candy. Now that I have the script I'll be able to read through and get the flow of the show. Lighting-wise I think it will be very simple. The big drawback is that I can't stand the woman who will be doing sound. She's a talker. An annoying talker who thinks everyone thinks she's talented and fun and interesting. In reality she's a shrill shrew. Oh well. It'll be another exercise in patience-building.

Happy Hump Day! BEHR HUGS

Behr Pick: Corduroy

When I was a senior in high school, I had a part time job for about 6 months. I worked at House of Fabrics, which was pretty much what it sounds like. We sold fabric, patterns, and notions. This was back in the day when people sewed and made their own clothes. I started out as a stock boy. My duties basically was to put out stock, straighten the store, and vacuum the floor. Eventually I was trained as a cutter and waited on customers, cutting fabric and ringing up sales. I actually enjoyed it. One of the things I learned most was about fabric: from gabardine to tulle to chiffon to broadcloth to corduroy.
I loved my corduroy pants. They were comfy and after a few washes nice and soft. I always opted for wide wale because I thought it looked more masculine! Corduroy comes and goes in fashion these days. I generally don't look at corduroy pants because I'm too fat to wear them. But I do missed them.

It's Tuesday and I'm still feeling a bit worn out and tired. Tonight I start going to rehearsals for the next theater production. I'll be doing lights for this show and I'm excited. It's something new so wish me luck!

Monday Morning

I had a very good time Saturday night at Universal's Halloween Horror Night, which was filled with thrills, chills, screams, and laughs. I'm lucky that I have friends who don't hold back when the need to scream like a little girl arises. And it did arise quite frequently!

I did not take my camera. A friend took his (he fancies himself a photographer) so I'm hoping he will post pictures soon that I may be able to share.

It looks like it's going to be a fairly easy work week. Yay! I do have projects on which to work, but none are at the stress point. I'm hoping it proves to be a rather relaxed Monday. May yours be the same.

Behr Pick: Muscled Fur

Happy Saturday!

To celebrate, here's something I hope you'll enjoy looking over. Grrrrwooof!

I'm basically spending the day doing chores: laundry, cleaning, grocery shopping, and the like. Thrilling, eh?

Tonight I'll be going to Universal Studio's Halloween Horror Night. This will be the fourth year in a row that I've gone. If anyone can do a Halloween event, it's Universal, what with the available "movie magic" at their disposal.

The mazes are well done and based on popular movies: Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the Saw series, Chuckie, et cetera. The execution and recreation is brilliant. One year in the Chainsaw maze, there was a guy strapped to a table screaming as Leatherface "skinned" his face. The actor on the table had a most excellent makeup job to resemble being skinned alive.

Now let me be honest: I've seen bits and pieces of these movies. I'm not a slasher movie fan. To my personal interpretation of the Samhain holiday is more along the lines of vampires, werewolves, ghosts, and Frankenstein. Most definitely old school. And yet I really enjoy this event! I think part of it is my fascination with "how they do it" and the overall effect of decoration. There's an incredible eye for detail in these mazes and I appreciate the work put into them even if I'm not familiar with the story.

In addition to the four or five mazes, there's The Mummy Ride, The Simpson's Ride, shows to see, and scare zones. Last year there was a "Sean of the Dead" scare zone that was hilarious!

I may take my camera; but it's usually quite dark and my camera's flash tends to go off and that isn't fair to the actors/participants and other event goers. We'll see. I'm going with four friends; one is driving up to ride with me, which will be nice to have the company. Another of our friends isn't able to go tonight; he'll be missed.

So that's what's on the schedule. Oh! And definitely a nap!

Behr TV

One of my admitted guilty pleasures is watching Survivor. I started watching in the first season and have since watched most seasons. Some have been decidedly better than others.

This here is Ben "Benry" Henry, a 24-year old Club Promoter from Los Angeles. THIS is one of the reasons I watch the show: gorgeous men.

Sure most of them come to the game clean shaven but as the 39 days transpire without shaving some of them just get hotter. And some contestants actually start growing chest fur. It can be woofy watching the transformations!

I know many people who are anti-reality shows but this was one of the first and is still one of the best. There's some decent eye candy every season. Check it out!

Spirit Day 2010

The first time I was bullied, I was in the 4th grade. I was harassed and nearly beaten up by a 6th grader who had been held back twice.

When I was in the 6th grade, my little league coach repeatedly berated me for being a "girl" due to my lack of athletic prowess.

When I was in high school I was called "fag" not only behind my back but to my face.

I was 16 when I tried to commit suicide.

I've been there. I know what it is like to feel different and alone and frightened and hopeless. I know what it is like to be the outsider, to be talked about, shunned, ridiculed, made fun of, and physically and verbally bullied.

IT. GETS. BETTER.

Please believe that. It doesn't mean it gets easier. But it gets a hell of a lot better. Believe in yourself. Call the Trevor Project (866-488-7386). They will help.

You are you: unique, beautiful, and very much loved. Give yourself a chance - and the rest of us who have survived - the opportunity to experience you. Stick around. You'll be glad you did.

Saturday's Event

Apologies for not posting yesterday; I'm feeling a little under the weather.

On Saturday I participated in the National Kidney Foundation's Los Angeles walk. According to the email I received post-event, this particular event raised over $20,000. Not bad for a cold, drizzly morning. The event was held at the Rose Bowl stadium, famous for those New Year's Day football games. We only walked around the stadium twice; it wasn't a 5K. But it was a nice walk.

I found out about this walk in an odd way: on the Red Line, which is our subway system here in Los Angeles. There was a poster in one of the cars. I thought I would check it out online and that, of course, got me motivated to sign up and walk.

Unlike the Arthritis Foundation Walk, the American Heart Association Walk, the AIDS Walk Los Angeles, or the American Cancer Society events that I support....I did this walk for me.

Yes, you read that correctly. I did it for me. Back in 2003 I was diagnosed with proteinuria, which basically means that my kidneys do not filter properly. It is quite possible that in the future I will suffer from renal failure. Here are some quick Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) facts:
  • The risk factors include diabetes and high blood pressure
  • 358,000 people depend on dialysis
  • 26 million American have CKD and most don't know it
  • 83,000 people are on the waiting list for a kidney transplant
  • 1 person dies every two hours while waiting for a kidney transplant
  • People at increased risk are African-Americans, Hispanics, Asians or Pacific Islanders, Native Americans and the elderly
If you are at risk, please get checked. Early detection and proper treatment can slow the progression of kidney disease.

Here are some pics of the event.

Behr Pick: Tattoo Thursday

I may have mentioned that I take public transportation to work. Specifically, a commuter train. In the afternoon, I try to catch the 4:20 train (that's the time, not number). Usually I'm successful.

I've noticed lately that the conductor has been different almost every day. I understand vacations, being ill, et cetera but this daily change is a little unsettling. Today's afternoon train conductor did not look unlike today's featured tattoo hunk: he was Latino, little goatee, and had a left sleeve tat. I know this because he had his cuff turned up once and I could see the blue ink. I tried taking pics of him with my cellphone but they didn't come out very well. So this hunk will have to do. Just imagine him in baggy tan khakis, a white dress shirt, and a yellow striped tie. And no...I doubt the conductor is as ripped as this hunk.

We're quickly approach the weekend - woo hoo! I'll be happy when the week is over. I'm going to keep pushing on through - hope you all are doing the same!

Behr Pick: Squeaky Clean Hump Day

Happy Hump Day! What better way to celebrate the middle of the week than taking a bubble bath with a bear? Especially one who is so handsome and furry and woofy!

Well believe it or not, things seem to be quieting down a little on the work front. Yesterday I finally was able to finish the project I have been stressing over for the past few weeks. In addition, I found a system flaw that has since been fixed. It was a rewarding day yesterday and for once I really loved my job. The woman who I am working with on the project kept telling me how awesome I am and how much she appreciated all of my work. Believe or not, it meant a lot to me to have her recognition. Now all I have are the presentations ahead of me and I'm confident they will go well. Time to move on to other projects.

As some of you may remember, I had Monday off in observance of Columbus Day. The ultrasound appointment went well. The guy who did it was cute-ish but not very friendly. Afterward I went home for a little while then met a friend at Disneyland. We had a great time.

So this week I'm not so stressed and it's really great. Thanks for the support the past few weeks.

Holiday Monday

Today is Columbus Day - or as I refer to it, "Invasion of America Day" - and that means I have a holiday. No hating! I am off because the Federal Reserve is closed and therefore so is the company for which I work.

This morning I will be going to the hospital for an ultrasound of my carotid arteries. About a month ago I started having a problem with dizzy spells. Not the "I'm going to pass out" dizzy but the "things are moving" dizzy. I think I mentioned earlier that my doctor has changed my blood pressure medication; but he wants to ensure there aren't any other problems or causes of the dizziness. Incidentally, I haven't had a spell since he changed my meds. So this is probably just for naught.

This afternoon I will be meeting a friend at Disneyland. This is my friend who was ill and has recovered. I haven't seen him in ages so it will be a good thing.

Whatever you're doing I hope it's wonderful. BEHR HUGS

Sunday Favorite: 46

I thought that since today is supposedly an auspicious day - due to to the 10/10/10 date format - that a special picture would be befitting.

This is truly one of my favorite pics from the Internet. I have no idea who the guy is. But the whole composition is stunning. When I first saw it my eye was drawn not to the snake coiled on his head but to his nipple ring. I can feel his concentration - betrayed by the slight grimace on his face - as he tries to not disturb the snake. Being the ever so imaginative pervert I am, I also find eroticism in what we don't see...

May your day be as auspicious as a snake on the head!

About a month ago I posted a Sunday Favorite that featured Jason Sokody. In that post I promised another "look." You probably didn't think I meant a different look for him. Behr Pick: Friday Fur

Throw those arms up and shout Hallelujah!

It's Friday and that means another furry hunk. This one is modeling electric blue DKNY briefs. He's also sporting quite a hefty piece of meat there. Love the fur; love the muscles; love the tattoos. Come on shout it with me - Hallelujah!

Yesterday I had my one month followup appointment with my ENT (he performed my surgery at the end of August). I think it took all of about 2 or 3 minutes. He asked a couple of questions, looked into my nose, gave me brief instructions, said it all looks good and he doesn't think he needs to see me again. Once again - Hallelujah!

I'm not sure what I will be doing this weekend; I thought about going work clothes shopping but the funds are a bit lacking due to some unexpected expenses so that's probably out. I should do something productive around the house. But if it really is going to be 85-degrees as predicted I need to get out and go somewhere!

I hope everyone's Friday is quick and painless! Make it a fun one. BEHR HUGS!

Behr Pick: Throbbing Thursday

The past few days have been strange...first the weather: rain, clouds, cooler temps. It's like...Autumn! If I sound amazed it's because I am. We hardly had much of a summer. Second, I've been more relaxed this week until yesterday; I had some changes - major changes - to the presentations I prepared for this project that last week had me working late. Unfortunately today I have class in the morning and a doctor appointment in the afternoon so won't be able to work on the project. Tomorrow is my "second" deadline. I hope I make it.

I'm keeping my cool, however, because it's a three-day weekend. Monday is Columbus Day - or as I prefer to call it Invasion of America Day - and so if I can get through the next 1 1/2 days of work I'll be good.

So why Throbbing Thursday? Because it sounded naughty!

Gay Days 2010 Recap 2

Continuing from yesterday, here are some pictures of additional decorative places at Disneyland. Across from Zocolo Mexican Restaurant (very good food if a little pricey) is a little alcove area set with Day of the Dead decorations including the band and lady in blue (she reminds me of something from Tim Burton's Corpse Bride). Along the path between Frontierland and Fantasyland is an area where goats and pumpkin carvers are on display at this time of year.

Did I mention that it was terribly crowded? Aside from all the Red Shirts, there seemed to be an over abundance of straight people. Or at least I presumed they were straight. Here's a couple shots I took of the seating area at Hungry Bear Restaurant:

One of the main reasons I go to Gay Days - aside from the feeling of community and rebellion - is to see friends, many of whom I don't see but once or twice a year. People like Steve with the mohawk! It's a new look for him.

This is Glenn...he used to be the "leader of our band" before he moved back home to Seattle. He built my now dead PC and is just one of the nicest cubs you'll ever want to meet. It was good to see him; I've missed our Mongolian BBQ dinners!

Glenn is now partnered to Wendell, the gentleman in the tan hat on the right. Nice man, bearish, woofy. That's Jim-James in the white shirt, he's recently engaged! And that's another Steve in the green hat.

This is Greg; he's one of the friends I ran around with. He's partnered to Jeff who I only caught a bad pic of (he lowered his head). Greg was pissed off when I took this!

This handsome fellow is Tim. What can I say about him? He's smart, employed, furry, hung, quiet....why someone hasn't snatched him up yet I don't know! Tim is another friend from my little group.

This is Topher. At one time I think he had a little crush on me. He's a nice guy and we occasionally go to the bars or movies together. The beard sans moustache is a new look for him - I like it!

The couple in the middle (third/fourth from left) is Scott and Raymond with their friends on Main Street. They're fun, woofy, recently new members of a leather club in Phoenix...and Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence (obviously not in face). They're currently enjoying a sabbatical from the Sisters.

Another reason I go to Gay Days is to check out the cute men. Here is a cross sampling of what you can see (check out the one in the white wife beater!):

So there you have it - my two-day recap of my adventures at Gay Days 2010! Lots of eye candy, lots of fun rides, lots of laughs (I'll save the personal story for later), and good food, good friends, and just an overall great time. I hope you enjoy perusing the pics.
