Sunday Favorite: 90

On this past Friday night I had a nice phone call from my friend who - with his partner - moved to Illinois last year. They're in the Los Angeles area house sitting and they've decided to "tie the knot." They've been together for about 20 years and FINALLY their union will be legal. He was calling to invite me to their as yet to be planned post-nuptials dinner party.

A female coworker informed me last week that she and her partner of 17 years also made a trip to the County Clerk's office and officially got hitched.

A coworker in my department announced a couple of weeks ago that he and his partner (not sure of how many years, double digits though I believe) also have officially gotten married.

Love - and equality - is in the air!

As for me, I continue to be single although seeing a bit of O still. Not sure if we're friends with benefits, fuck buddies, or boyfriends. I'm not questioning it. He's grown a lot since we first met: now employed, paying rent to his father, and being a responsible adult. He's also grown in size! He's gained weight, which looks good on him, and he fits my idea of "cub" or "bear" although such labels are unimportant. Last Saturday we spent a major portion of the day together and had a really good time. I enjoy his company and he finds me attractive so there's not much to question.

One more week! Then we have our long Labor Day weekend. I'll be taking the other four days off that week. I've only had five days of vacation so far this year. That leaves me 17 days to take by year end. So I decided that would be a good time to knock off four days.

I'm looking forward to Gay Days this year; my friends Roger and Dave will be coming down from Washington again. I hope to be able to hang out with them. They're really woofy and friendly and just really great guys.

Does anyone have a pet-safe remedy for ant invasions? I've dealt with ants this entire past week. Every night when I've gotten home I've had to battle them. Poor Winston's food takes the brunt of it. I've tried the Blue Dawn, the Bounce dryer sheets, boric acid...nothing seems to keep them from coming into the house. And most times I cannot tell where they're coming from! It's frustrating. I'm thinking of calling an exterminator that a friend with pets uses.

That's about all of an update I have. Boring!

Gay Days 2012

As I mentioned in my previous post, this weekend is Gay Days at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim CA. You would be surprised how many LGBTQ community members travel from far distances to attend (especially after the incredible entrance fee hike Disney announced earlier this year).

I had a GREAT time. Although I only visited a couple of attractions in seven hours, it was the social aspect that made it such a good day. I didn't take a lot of pictures, but do want to share some of those I did. (Click an image to see a [hopefully] larger version.)

My friends, Roger (l) and his partner Dave (r). They live in WA and Roger and I have chatted for years. FINALLY met these two fun, sexy bears. Note their shirts...both instant classics.
Bears! At the Hungry Bear Restaurant, of course.
Muscle Bear....you should have seen how handsome (and hot) he was!
More bears!
A sea of red wherever the eye looked!
A woofy bear...it looks blurry because I had to crop and enlarge the original pic.
More bears! Roger is in the foreground...the shirt on the guy behind him says "Lost Boy Looking For Peter!"
"Lost Boy's" calf tat - I want!
Eric...we went on one date back 5 years ago...it was great seeing (and flirting) with him.
Roger, Dave and I had just gotten on the train when these hot bears got into line. I waved at the bigger bearded one...he waved back! As the train pulled out of the station he waved again. He had a gorgeous smile!
After spending time at Disneyland, we went to California Adventure. I saw these cuties in the entrance line.
Adorable (and talkative) bears outside of the Frankenweenie 4D sneak peek.
One of the California Adventure stores...I thought it was funny (think perverted like me).
So there you have it...the few pics I took. Although all we did were the canoes and the Frankenweenie sneak peek, it was great seeing old friends and making new friends. It was a relaxed day - perfect for admiring the incredible representation of the LGBTQ community at the Happiest Place on Earth!

Red Shirt Day

This weekend is the annual "unofficial" Gay Days at the Disneyland Resort. I'll be going to Disneyland today, mostly to see those friends I haven't seen either since last year or for a long while. I'm also hoping to meet some guys I've chatted with (for years) but have never met. I always go with some trepidation; I'm always afraid of running into my ex.

It's forecasted to be a nice day - in the mid 80s. Later next week the forecast is for cooler temperatures (yay) and perhaps some drizzles (okay) and maybe rain (uh-oh). Since I'm officially on vacation this next week I'll have to plan my activities accordingly.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Gay Days 2010 Recap 2

Continuing from yesterday, here are some pictures of additional decorative places at Disneyland. Across from Zocolo Mexican Restaurant (very good food if a little pricey) is a little alcove area set with Day of the Dead decorations including the band and lady in blue (she reminds me of something from Tim Burton's Corpse Bride). Along the path between Frontierland and Fantasyland is an area where goats and pumpkin carvers are on display at this time of year.

Did I mention that it was terribly crowded? Aside from all the Red Shirts, there seemed to be an over abundance of straight people. Or at least I presumed they were straight. Here's a couple shots I took of the seating area at Hungry Bear Restaurant:

One of the main reasons I go to Gay Days - aside from the feeling of community and rebellion - is to see friends, many of whom I don't see but once or twice a year. People like Steve with the mohawk! It's a new look for him.

This is Glenn...he used to be the "leader of our band" before he moved back home to Seattle. He built my now dead PC and is just one of the nicest cubs you'll ever want to meet. It was good to see him; I've missed our Mongolian BBQ dinners!

Glenn is now partnered to Wendell, the gentleman in the tan hat on the right. Nice man, bearish, woofy. That's Jim-James in the white shirt, he's recently engaged! And that's another Steve in the green hat.

This is Greg; he's one of the friends I ran around with. He's partnered to Jeff who I only caught a bad pic of (he lowered his head). Greg was pissed off when I took this!

This handsome fellow is Tim. What can I say about him? He's smart, employed, furry, hung, quiet....why someone hasn't snatched him up yet I don't know! Tim is another friend from my little group.

This is Topher. At one time I think he had a little crush on me. He's a nice guy and we occasionally go to the bars or movies together. The beard sans moustache is a new look for him - I like it!

The couple in the middle (third/fourth from left) is Scott and Raymond with their friends on Main Street. They're fun, woofy, recently new members of a leather club in Phoenix...and Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence (obviously not in face). They're currently enjoying a sabbatical from the Sisters.

Another reason I go to Gay Days is to check out the cute men. Here is a cross sampling of what you can see (check out the one in the white wife beater!):

So there you have it - my two-day recap of my adventures at Gay Days 2010! Lots of eye candy, lots of fun rides, lots of laughs (I'll save the personal story for later), and good food, good friends, and just an overall great time. I hope you enjoy perusing the pics.

Behr Pick: Friday Fur and Muscle

Need I really say anything about today's featured demigod?

After work yesterday I met up with a friend. We've been trying to get together for lunch but it just hasn't worked out due to respective schedules (he works in downtown too). I suggested drinks after work since I've been working late and I know he usually leaves his office about 5; he thought that sounded like a good idea. When we firmed up the day/time he suggested coffee in lieu of alcohol. Oddly enough we just talked and never had coffee! It was good to see him despite the topic of conversation. I don't want to betray trust so suffice it to say he and his BF had a bad incident this past weekend and he needed to talk.

So today is my deadline for the project I've been stressing over for the past couple of weeks. Needless to say, I don't think I'll make it. If I stay at my desk and work on nothing else I might be able to get it done but I get interruptions and have other tasks to accomplish. I decided to not stress out over it and to get done what I can get done.

This weekend is the unofficial Gay Days - or Red Shirt Day - at Disneyland. I haven't completely decided whether to go or not. It will be an opportunity to use my annual pass before it expires (I haven't decided if I'm going to renew). The atmosphere and the group that I usually hang out with - bears you know - has changed dramatically over the years. It's just not the same as it was a few years ago. Change can be good but there are some things we'd rather didn't change.

Other than that, not much else on tap for the weekend other than the usual chores. Good grief I'm boring!

Enjoy your Friday. BEHR HUGS

Bear Meal

Every year when the Gay Days event happens, the bear community tends to meet for a meal at - where else - The Hungry Bear restaurant. This year they had something new: Bear Meal. It was a double-bacon cheeseburger, fries, a drink (non-alcoholic of course) and a dessert.

The burger itself was typical Disney fare but it filled me up for about an hour. The dessert was a tad disappointing, it was only a chocolate chip cookie (one of the large kind, smaller than a saucer but bigger than your average cookie). All of this for the low price of $12.99 plus tax. With my passholder discount and tax the total came to $12.01. Still overpriced but how often does one eat a bear meal with bears? BEHR HUGS!!

Red Shirt Day

Tomorrow is Gay Days at the Happiest Place on Earth - Disneyland! On the first weekend in October, the GLBT community gathers to enjoy a day of freedom at the parks in Anaheim CA. All those who identify - and support - wears a red shirt, many with witty images and/or text. It's really amazing to see thousands of our brothers and sisters traipsing through the park.

I usually hang out with the bears - big surprise! There are some organized events at the neighboring hotels but I always take the simple route: I go (I'm an annual passholder) and ride rides and hang out with new and old friends. Sometimes our group swells to 40+ bears. It's a lot of fun!

Of course, we stop to take group photos every so often. On Sunday, those who haven't gotten enough visit Disney's California Adventure. I usually pass on this as I'm too wore out from the sun and fun of the day before. Here are some group photos from past years.

The pictures aren't really in order but that's okay. Unfortunately I do not have a camera (I really need to get with it) but may try to snap some with my cell. So even if you can't join us (you're welcome for the late notice!) wear a red shirt in solidarity anyway.

BEHR HUGS!!
