All Inked Up

Once upon a time I was fascinated by tattoos. I still am, to a certain degree. Like the guy who sold me the roof...he had awesome "card" tattoos, each containing the name of a sibling. I secretly hoped the "Alex" one was for his husband but to no avail. He said he had a phoenix that covered a shoulder and crept over to his back.

As you all know, my tastes run the gamut. Take the guy above...at first I see beautiful artwork on a hot body. But then I think it's a bit overdone and what will it look like when he's much older...or fatter...and those muscled pecs sag to the middle of his chest? Don't get me started on the pain he had to endure to have these images permanently applied to his skin. And I wonder what motivated him to have it done...what's the "story" behind it all.

And then there's someone like this guy, whose tattoos seem so random. The stars are symmetrical and I suppose whatever is tattooed across his mid-section is as well....but the colored detailed ink on his right arm/shoulder seems very offset by the left arm tattoo.

Or am I comparing apples to oranges?

And for the record...that second guy could do whatever he wants to me.

Hipster Bear Cub Encounter

This past week I've been suit shopping. During my last 18 years at my former employer, I went from wearing suits to business casual back to professional dress. During those wardrobe transitions, my body changed from plump, to hunky (someone else's words) to chubby. I haven't had a suit or jacket that has fit for a while. Last year I bought a sport jacket to wear to a funeral. Unfortunately it doesn't quite fit properly and is too heavy for the heat wave we've been experiencing. So I decided that I should have a proper suit in case I get an interview.

I've tried department stores and men's shops but really hadn't found anything that appealed or was within my price range. Yesterday, after looking at another department store (nice selection except their sizes didn't go up as far as I needed) I decided it was time to go to the "fat man" shop. I went into a new store called DXL that is a rebranded Casual Male. VERY nice store with extremely nice merchandise. The salesman who assisted me was friendly, knowledgeable, but not pushy or overwhelming. I found a suit and it needs altering so the guy who does the alterations came out to check and do the pinning.

I tried my best to not drool. He was so handsome. A hipster bear cub. He looked very much like the guy in the above picture except his beard was the same color as his hair and it wasn't quite so full plus he was younger. He was friendly, making small talk and explaining what they would do to the suit to make it fit better. He had a gentle touch, too. When he said that it fit well across the shoulders he ran his hand across my shoulders then touched the center of my back and said "We'll let out the back seam to give you more room around the middle."  I chalked it up to he being into his job and not that he likes chubby white guys. I'm hoping he'll be there next week when I go to pick up the finished suit. 

I don't see many hipster bears and cubs out in the real world. I see pictures of them on Tumblr mostly. I think they're hot. The beard, the hair style, the glasses, the tats, the piercings, the fur....SWOON. Here are some samples:

Like the term "bear," hipster has many definitions and iterations. So my selection here may not be what you consider a hipster bear. But I bet there are some similarities. For me the one consistent is the beard. Grrrr.

Did you enjoy your Martin Luther King, Jr. Day? I did...I slept in, played on the computer, worked in the flowerbeds, saw the doctor, and burned popcorn.

Okay maybe that last one was unnecessary but I did and the house still stinks of it. And yes, I microwaved a lemon. But I think that only helped the microwave not the house. Thankfully I have scented candles like every good gay.

It's back to work. I originally was going to take today off as my New Year's float day but something came up at the end of last week so I cancelled it. I'll probably take it in a week to make another short week.

Behr Pick: Tuesday Tattoo

A while back I started waffling back and forth as to whether I found tattoos sexy or not. I started thinking that ink has become commonplace and uninteresting; tattoos are becoming commonplace and uninteresting, especially among male gay porn stars. Take a look: those who are getting the black tats in designs that cover their shoulders, chests, arms, backs, etc look like every one else's. The uniqueness and fascination is waning.

Then I see someone like this guy who has color designs covering major guns. THIS tattooed guy is hot and sexy. His ink is unique, beautiful...it's art. It's possible that his tats tell a story or represent something symbolic to him. THAT is what body art is supposed to be about.

And so my final conclusion is: if the tattoos are unique, in color, tell a story, and/or are artfully rendered, then they tend to make the wearer sexy and hot and woofy. But if the tat designs are commonplace and boring, for example, blocks of black ink, then they just becomes banal and the sexiness and allure dissipate.

Behr Pick: Tattoo Thursday

I may have mentioned that I take public transportation to work. Specifically, a commuter train. In the afternoon, I try to catch the 4:20 train (that's the time, not number). Usually I'm successful.

I've noticed lately that the conductor has been different almost every day. I understand vacations, being ill, et cetera but this daily change is a little unsettling. Today's afternoon train conductor did not look unlike today's featured tattoo hunk: he was Latino, little goatee, and had a left sleeve tat. I know this because he had his cuff turned up once and I could see the blue ink. I tried taking pics of him with my cellphone but they didn't come out very well. So this hunk will have to do. Just imagine him in baggy tan khakis, a white dress shirt, and a yellow striped tie. And no...I doubt the conductor is as ripped as this hunk.

We're quickly approach the weekend - woo hoo! I'll be happy when the week is over. I'm going to keep pushing on through - hope you all are doing the same!

Behr Pick: Friday Fur

Throw those arms up and shout Hallelujah!

It's Friday and that means another furry hunk. This one is modeling electric blue DKNY briefs. He's also sporting quite a hefty piece of meat there. Love the fur; love the muscles; love the tattoos. Come on shout it with me - Hallelujah!

Yesterday I had my one month followup appointment with my ENT (he performed my surgery at the end of August). I think it took all of about 2 or 3 minutes. He asked a couple of questions, looked into my nose, gave me brief instructions, said it all looks good and he doesn't think he needs to see me again. Once again - Hallelujah!

I'm not sure what I will be doing this weekend; I thought about going work clothes shopping but the funds are a bit lacking due to some unexpected expenses so that's probably out. I should do something productive around the house. But if it really is going to be 85-degrees as predicted I need to get out and go somewhere!

Behr Pick: Tuesday Tattoo

Thank goodness Monday is over...and it was just as horrible as I anticipated.

My morning train was late.
My iPod died; I forgot to charge it.
My boss changed our meeting to a working lunch meeting.
I had to buy my own lunch.
My email program at work crashed.

I didn't get a chance to prepare for the 3-day class that starts tomorrow.
I ended up staying late.
The evening subway was late.
The evening train was late.
There was nothing on TV when I finally got home.

So I'm happy it's Tuesday.

And Tattoo Tuesday at that! Isn't this a great pic? When I first saw it, this adorable man's eyes totally caught my attention; then I started examining the rest of him...and the colorful tats are just incredible. I can only imagine the patience and dedication the sessions took.

Behr Pick: Tattoo Tuesday

Today is my first day back to work in a little over a week. I'm not looking forward to it. I shouldn't complain since my time off falls under the "sick pay" category and so I receive full pay and benefits for the time off. And I don't have to go in right away; I have another follow-up appointment with the doctor. But I know what's waiting for me and I just have no desire to deal with it. (What do you think of my petulant child imitation? LOL)

I suspect I found today's picture on Male Tattoo and Piercing (NSFW). The time involved must have been quite the commitment, for both the inker and the inkee. I think it's incredible. I'd like to see the front of this guy. I'm thinking pierced nipples and chest tats. Grrrr.

Behr Pick: Tattoo Tuesday

This is Andrew McLaren, a minor actor who has incredible tattoos and a fantastic body. I just hope he keeps up with his fitness routine to maintain the inked design, especially over his guns and chest. I've not seen any of his films and I'm not sure I remember how I came across him. Check out his IMDB profile here, where there are more pictures.

I like the second picture best although it's not HD sharp...it looks like he's let his facial hair and body fur grow out a little. I like. I like a lot.

Last night I stopped by Lens Crafters and dropped my glasses off so the new lenses could be put in. I went back over and picked them up; the prescription didn't change a lot, I don't think, but things do seem a bit sharper. The bifocal part is way sharper. I anticipate a headache later today.

I can't wait for my new glasses to get in, which I ordered as a backup pair. They pretty much like the ones I have but that was the point. I don't understand why they didn't come in at the same time as the lenses for my current frames but whatever.

Behr Pick: Tattooed Hump Day

I've never been a big butt man. Wait....that's not what I meant. I mean, I do have a big butt but ... oh crap, let me start again.

Why do men's asses look better encased in chaps? I suspect that it's because the leather "frames" the buttocks in an appealing way, especially if the buttocks are firm. They can be smooth, as in the example to the left, or furry (something that drives me wild).

Now...take a look at this guy...his tattoo reads "Well Bred." Is it in reference to a silver-spoon childhood? Is it perhaps that he took top honors at his finishing school? Or does it mean what I think it means? *wink*wink*nudge*nudge*

As you ponder this incredible ass (and muscular back and tattoos), enjoy your hump day.

Tattoo Tuesday: Atlas

Tattoos are very personal and for many people the design has a special or personal meaning. I'm sure are those who just get a tattoo (barbed wire bicep band) just to fit in with the crowd and those folks probably get tattoo remorse.

I like this tattoo: a bearish Atlas holding up the world, which is surrounded by the words Trust, Respect, Compassion, Integrity. Definitely words to live by. The tat is different and meaningful. And the detail is incredible. Click it to see it in a bit more detail.

Oh and this tattoo adorns Jon, who, although scowling a bit, is rather cute!

Since it's summer, I thought this gentleman was the perfect selection for Tattoo Tuesday. He's tattooed, muscular, furry, handsome....and at the beach! Now I admit I'm not crazy about the side tattoo and chest tattoo...but I can easily overlook those for the sheer fact that the rest of him looks so good.

Monday went well. For some reason I felt good and my mood was lighter than it has been. I'm hoping it's a continuing trend.

And that tattoo is wicked hot...the way it curves down from your shoulder over your fur-covered pec to just above your nipple...your nipple that is begging to be licked, sucked, bitten. And damn! I can tell you have great abs, just ready to feel my tongue. I can only imagine the perfection below your waist based on your perfection above it.
