Walking for a Cure...OK Watering for a Cure!

The company I work for - a bank in Los Angeles - has been a sponsor of the Arthritis Foundation Walk for a Cure for the past several years and this year was no different. This year my company was the proud sponsor of the two water stops along the 5K route.

I have been a participant in this event for the past four or five years. I started out supporting a couple of co-workers who have arthritis but when my mom was diagnosed it became personal. I walk for her (and she knows it!). This year I did not walk but helped with the water station. Since my mom could not physically walk (having had foot surgery late last year), I asked if she wanted to join me so she could feel a part of the event. I was happy she said yes! So this past Sunday we drove to Santa Monica beach and passed out bottles of water to the 100+ walkers. It was just as fun as walking because we were able to cheer on the walkers and give our support.

I did raise money - almost $500 - toward the fund raising efforts. Aside from personal interest, did you know that over 46 million Americans suffer from this debilitating disease? Over 300,000 of those Americans are children. It is NOT an old person's disease!

It was a beautiful day at Santa Monica beach. After the last walkers went by, we "closed up shop" and headed toward the event site where several vendors and sponsors had booths. There was even a live band playing some very decent rock music! After our group picture was taken and mom and I had eaten chips, bananas, and hot dogs, she and I went out toward the water and sat on the sand. It was so nice to spend some time with her, just the two of us.

I hope to have pictures - at least of my company's group - within a few days. I don't know why I didn't think to take a camera! Keep an eye out for an update post.

BEHR HUGS!
