Sunday Behr Update

Several things running through my head:

On Tuesday I will be flying to the Bay area for work on Wednesday and Thursday. I am not staying at my usual hotel; that's a plus and a negative. Makes my commute in the morning (from the city to Alameda) a bit longer (including a longer walk to BART) but it's a cool retro motel that is closer to where Bear lives and works. I'm a bit anxious about the return; class is scheduled to end at 5 and my flight is at 5:25. I don't think that's going to happen. So I'm going to try to end class early - REAL early - on Thursday. Hopefully no later than 3. If push comes to shove I'll ask someone to give me a ride to the airport (Oakland). Next week I do the same trip only I fly up on Monday, returning Wednesday. I wish I had built in a little more - stay another night - but I am so cost-conscious that it's not funny. I do plan to see Bear...it's been way too long.

Also on the work front has been some anxiety. My manager left the company and one of our stronger coworkers is out on maternity leave. We have a "temporary" manager who is trying to change things. She means well but she keeps assigning me projects then asks when I'm going to take vacation. I've only taken five days off so far this year. Thankfully, one project that had me stressed is being pushed back, possibly to September. That will give me more time to get the materials created.

I don't know what to think of the Martin-Zimmerman situation. I understand why people are upset but I also know that due process was accomplished. Zimmerman had a trial and was judged by a jury of his peers and they returned their verdict. People may not like that but running through the streets, causing havoc is not a productive way of demonstrating one's dissatisfaction. I'm not convinced that Martin was truly a victim. But all that aside it makes me think that if this nation still cannot get over its racism how the hell is it going to get over its homophobia?

On a personal side, I'm a bit confused. My friend O - for whom I had feelings at one point - has been upset lately that I'm so self-deprecating. He says that he really cares about me and yet my attitude toward myself is hurting our relationship. I didn't know we were IN a relationship. It seems whenever I say something that shows how much I care he gets weirded out. Like the time I accidentally said "Is your boyfriend awesome or what?" He hesitated and blinked and stammered. I didn't tell him about my upcoming trips (I thought I had) and he's wanting to see me before I go because he's going to miss me. WTH? We don't see each other every day and don't even text every day. When we are together he doesn't seem to want to talk seriously about anything. *sigh* Why are boyfriends such a bother?

You may remember a few posts back that I lamented the fact that I am generous to a fault. I finally "blew up" at one of my benefactors. He had asked to borrow a nominal amount and I completely forgot to send it to him. My mistake - I had a lot going on that week. He called me - not only on my cell but my landline too - demanding to know where the money was that I was going to send. It was the wrong moment to cross me. I called him up and told him that I forgot but that I didn't appreciate his attitude. I basically said that I have made my choices in life and they've suited me well and that I work hard for my money. I said that I don't owe him anything and for him to come across like I am beholden to him was not reality. He's made his choices in life and he needs to learn to live with the consequences. He agreed completely and said that he would rather fore go the money than lose my friendship (yeah because I'm always the "Bank of Mark"). I told him it was because we're friends I could be honest with him and talk to him like that. I was so angry my voice was shaking. I sent him the money - he's repaid it too. I was just happy that I finally stood up for myself. Of course my "friend" who I sent $400 hasn't spoken to me since. It just goes to show that some people are only in it for themselves without consideration for others.

For those of you who have a Trader Joe's near you and are into cheese, let me recommend the Trader Joe's Chevre with honey. OMG. It's delicious. I put it in the middle of my omelet and fold the omelet over it. When it heats up and gets gooey it's simply scrumptious!

I cannot believe that my boys (Arizona Diamondbacks) are still number one in the National League West. They've lost their last few games but are still holding on. Now that the All-Star game is over (a complete and utter disaster), it's time for them to literally step up their game and put more distance between them and the stupid Dodgers. After all....it IS the Year of the Snake!

Sunday Recap

Congratulations to the NY Giants on their Super Bowl win...although I didn't really care one way or the other who won, I was pulling for Tom Brady and the Patriots there in the last 57 seconds of the game.

I watched the game with my dad at the convalescent home. Although neither of us is really into football, it was nice to spend some time with dad. He's getting better but he doesn't think he's well enough to go home yet. Evidently there will be a meeting on Tuesday to determine his progress and if he can leave. I know he wants to go home but he also wants to be able to move and do for himself to make it easier on my mom. Fingers crossed that the right decision is made.

Back to Super Sunday: Had two favorite commercials. The first was the Chevy Silverado commercial about the end of the world thanks to the Mayan calendar...I laughed about the Twinkies and at the very end when the frogs started falling. I also liked the Great Dane Doritos ad. Although I'm a cat lover I laughed out loud. My least favorite  ad was for GoDaddy.com...come on, it has nothing to do with supposedly naked women, it was just stupid. Visually it was not stimulating and it was not clever at all. An honorable mention to the Matthew Broderick "Ferris Bueller" ad.

I'm not going to comment on the half-time show...except to ask "Where the hell did they find so many muscle guys to play Romans?"

I had a nice "date" on Friday night with O; it was impromptu, which is nice. I picked him up after visiting Dad and we went to dinner then back to my place for an incredible cuddle session. Tomorrow we're expecting rain in Southern California...it's about time. We've been dry and although we've had some cold temperatures we're quickly running out of Winter. The rain is needed.

That's about all for now. BEHR HUGS

Behr Sunday POV

Evidently the Rapture didn't happen. As you're all aware, Harold Camping predicted that those folks who were pure (or Christian or whatever) would be "taken" and the rest of us would be destroyed by earthquake. Camping is a nutcase and I think everyone - or almost everyone - knew it. I feel sorry for his followers who were insistent that it was going to happen. If Camping knew anything he'd know not to fuck with God. The Book of Revelations - presumably the same place Camping got his prediction - tells us that no one knows the day or hour. So a prediction for the end of the world is pretty lame. Still, I'm glad that it didn't happen because I like my life, even if I'm not the best person.

Today is the Gay Pride parade/event in Long Beach, which is a suburb of Los Angeles. This event has grown in size and I know many who attend it in lieu of attending the LA one because it is "nicer." So to my local gay brothers and lesbian sisters, Happy Pride. Enjoy yourself, have fun, and be safe.

Sunday Blues

I feel like an idiot. I am an idiot. At yesterday's discussion group I found out by someone who doesn't keep his mouth shut that SD was flirting with everyone at his birthday party a couple weeks ago. Evidently, P and SD were dating; and they've now "broken up" and yet still remain friends and just hang together (as evidenced by their trip to a bear Super Bowl event last Sunday). And Mr. Can't Keep His Mouth Shut thinks P is angry at him for being "touchy-feely" with SD. So for those of you who gave me a dose of reality in your comments - thank you. I will endeavor to learn to listen to you. You were right: what 27 year old in his right mind would want me?

So yesterday I opened the bottle of Violetta thinking I'd drink away the memory of S. Well actually... I tried to open the bottle of Violetta. The cork had dried out and so I ended up having to strain the wine through a tea strainer. The wine had begun to turn and no longer tasted like the heavenly elixir it should so I dumped it down the drain. It was probably for the better but a bit of a disappointment.

Trust me.... the irony was not lost on me.

SuperBowl Sunday 2011

I know today is the day to be all googley-bear about football. Unfortunately I'm still recovering from a 24-hour flu bug so my excitement is at a minimum. Plus I've missed some prime opportunities this weekend to see someone again. I am not happy.

Sunday Behr Blather

Yes it's me. I know I've been away this past week. My absence was due to a busy work week and feeling over tired. There was little to share and I just stepped back from my usual online presence. It's also that time of year where I fight to keep my inner demons at bay. Thanks to those who inquired after my well-being.

Alright, that aside, onto some bits.

The other evening as I was headed toward the escalator to go to the lowest level in order to catch the subway bound for Union Station, a very cute papi stepped onto the escalator. He started down and glanced up at me and there was a "moment" that our eyes kind of locked. After I made the U-turn to get onto the same down escalator he turned around and looked up past me as if he was looking for someone...then he locked eyes with me. He then turned away and that was that. I know if I had smiled perhaps the "missed connection" would have turned out differently. But since I didn't smile at him he probably assumed that I wasn't interested. But he did check me out. And he was cute.

Another evening on the subway I saw a woman who definitely is a drag queen wannabe. She has short red hair that has blond highlights. It's cut in that style where the bangs on either side of her face are long but the back is shaped short. Plus it looked like she had had Botox injected into her overly done lips; her lip liner was about 10 shades too dark for the lipstick. To top it all off, she either glued caterpillars to her eyelids or her mascara barfed on her eyelashes. There wasn't time to take a picture of her. I was amused.

One more week of work! It should prove to be somewhat easy going as well. On Monday is the divisional holiday party (I work in HR) and on Friday the team holiday party (Training Dept). The other days will be spent finishing curriculum that I will debut in January. Other than that, it should be a quiet and uneventful week.

I tried yesterday to get into the holiday spirit by pulling down all of my Christmas storage tubs from the garage and taking them into the house. In doing so, I popped out my left knee again so of course the tendinitis is back. I set up the fake tree in the living room. I haven't decorated it yet; I think I'll wait and give Winston time to acclimate to its existence again. He's been sitting under it and biting the fake limbs. And probably swallowing the fake needles. To top things off, he's been a real wuss-puss; I swear his picture is under the dictionary definition of "scaredy-cat." He seems to jump at and/or run away from everything these days.

That's about all I have for now. I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. BEHR HUGS

Sunday Restful Sunday

I'm back home from my SF trip. Over all it was a good trip although there were some moments of stress and frustration. There were also many really good moments.

Today I'm doing laundry and catching up on stuff around the house and relaxing. I'll blog about the trip over the next few days.

Enjoy your day everyone! BEHR HUGS!!

One bear is easy enough. Two bears is a couple or duo. Three is a trio. But what do you call a group of four or more bears? A bevy of bears? A kindle of bears? Maybe we should just stick to hot. Here are some HOT groups of bears for your Sunday. Grrr! Woof! BEHR HUGS!

The behr's mind made some kind of leap between Sunday, monks, and hoodies. Don't bother trying to figure it out it will only make your head hurt. These are some of my favorite "hoodie" pics from the Internet...hope you enjoy. Have a peaceful Sunday! BEHR HUGS!

Sunday Peace

This is one of my favorite pics from the Internet. I find it very relaxing and inspirational and it calms the thoughts fighting in my head. (Well now if that didn't just make me sound like a crazy person!) I hope you all find a moment to stop, relax, and find a moment of peace today.

Reflections

Sundays have always been a time for quietness and reflection. What better way to reflect on the beauty of man than catching a glimpse of his mirrored self?
