I hope all of my American friends and followers had a nice Thanksgiving. I myself have a lot for which I'm thankful: my family, my home, my job, my friends.  I'm thankful my health situation isn't worse. I'm very thankful that I have Winston. 

Friday was my Mom's birthday. We all met at the movie theater in the morning and saw "Life of Pi." We saw it in 2D since 3D prices are outrageous and my Mom prefers 2D. Spectacular movie. Gorgeous cinematography. A thought-provoking, soul-touching story. Amazing acting, especially by newcomer Suraj Sharma. I highly recommend this movie. I want to see it again so I can hopefully pick up on things I missed.

On Saturday I went to lunch and the cheap movies with a friend to see the Disney-Pixar movie "Brave." Who can resist Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters, and Kelly McDonald voicing Scottish characters? It was cute and funny, on par with their other movies. Like the other movie, I'd like to see it again to catch the things I missed. For example, I totally missed the Pixar Pizza Planet truck and a hidden Mickey!

I have three full weeks of work before taking the last two weeks of December off. I'm hoping they go quickly and - most of all - painlessly.

Early Weekend Update: HOT!

I titled today's pic "Hot Overalls." Speaking of hot, it was 108 in my city today. I'm so ready for the heat to dissipate and for a nice arctic cold front to sweep in. Rain would be a refreshing change. It doesn't look as if there's any relief in sight, unfortunately.

Last night was the third of seven performances of Fiddler on the Roof that I blogged about earlier last week. Despite a pickup rehearsal, tonight's performance wasn't as polished as opening weekend, at least not in my opinion. Still we had an audience of over 200 so I can't complain much about that.

After the show, I met up with three ladies from the theater for drinks and munchies at a local restaurant chain. I had beer and sliders, which really hit the spot in my hungry tummy. There were four plus fries and string onions. Although I eat dinner before going to the theater, this show makes me hungry. It's probably psychological; I'm doing physical work and my body thinks it needs fuel. 

When I got home - after midnight - technically this morning - I decided to do a load of laundry. We're all urged to use major appliances after 6pm so the power grid doesn't go kaput. I thought this was a good idea - I get a much needed task accomplished AND I do it at a time when most people are asleep and not using power. It also gives me a jump on my chores for the weekend. We have a Saturday performance and a Sunday matinee so my time is limited. Naps are definitely required during the run of a show.

I'm looking forward to October; I plan to take some time off work. I haven't completely decided what I'll be doing but I'm considering flying up to SF to visit the Bear. BTW....they had a nice 64-degree day today. Or yesterday, rather. Sounds like a really nice change.

I won't see my folks this weekend; today they're on a senior citizen trip and tomorrow my mom planned something with my sister. She knows I have the matinee and she figures I'll need the time to relax and finish chores. She figured right. 

That's about all I have for now. As soon as the washer is done and I get the laundry in the dryer I'll be hitting the sheets.

Behr's Weekend Recap

The weekend went well. Our Friday night show went well and there was a lot of excitement about the show winding down. Because I still felt punky with a cold, I didn't go out afterwards.

On Saturday I met an online acquaintance for lunch. He was visiting the local mortuary park and wanted to meet up. We ate at this little cafe spot, Mimo's, and sat on the patio. It was nice and pleasant and no awkwardness. Or at least very little. We walked back to our cars and he gave me three bottles of wine! I thought that was very sweet of him.

The show on Saturday went very well and ended on an exceptionally high note. The boyfriend of one of the female leads, Heather, stepped out onto the stage right at the end of the curtain call, dropped to his knee and handed her a ring. You could have heard a pin drop! Poor Heather didn't know what to say. Another girl said "You're getting married!" to which Heather finally said "YES!" The entire cast and crew were caught up in the moment and there were a lot of tears and laughter. Couldn't have happened to a nicer girl.

Sunday was the charity walk for the National Kidney Foundation. My mom went with and did the 1 mile option while I attempted the 3 mile option. I'll be honest: I didn't quite finish. I was in desperate need of a restroom and decided not to try to "hold it." I ended up cutting through a parking lot. Still...I walked 95% of it! And the important thing was raising the money.

I'm taking Friday off so it's a short week for me. I just hope it goes by painlessly!

Behr Pick: Long Weekend

There are advantages to working for the company I do; if a Federal holiday falls on a Saturday we usually get a "floating" holiday in lieu of. That float day must be taken any time 30days before or after the actual holiday. So today I am enjoying another 3-day weekend, thanks to New Year's Day.

Last night I had a blind date.

I recently joined yet another social networking site, one that caters to men of a larger stature and their admirers. I like this site for the fact that - with a basic, non-fee paying membership - one can still see who is looking at your profile. I've had several messages already from men of varying attractiveness and in varying geographical locations.

I usually won't meet someone if they don't have a profile picture or fill out the basic information. But this guy - let's call him Jack - didn't have a picture and only listed his age and CA residence (no city). He messaged me and asked if I would like to meet. Based on his age - I'll talk about that momentarily - I thought that the missing picture was due to his not being out. I was correct. He was a nice kid. It surprised me that he is Asian primarily because of the agreed upon meeting location is predominantly Hispanic. He attends a nearby community college, works (I didn't quite catch the name of the business), and has been here in the U.S. for three years. His accent is a bit heavy and the usual jokes of replacing "R" and "L" is not too far off the mark. I cannot remember now what he said but in my head I was laughing because I knew what he meant despite the wrong consonants and vowels being used. He's 25, lives with friends although his family is somewhere nearby, and he is in the closet. We talked for about 2 1/2 hours. I imagine he'll contact me again just to hang out.

I'm hoping this weekend to catch at least one if not two or three of the Oscar-nominated films. I also hope to do a little work in the yard and meet up with friends at Disneyland. It's been a long crazy work week and I'm ready to relax. Oh waiter! I'll have another cocktail now!

Kiss the Weekend Good-Bye

I hope you kissed the weekend good-bye because it's Monday.

I am hoping it'll be a short week again. Because New Year's Day landed on a Saturday the company gives us a "floating" holiday, which means we can take it any time within 30 before or after the actual holiday. So I'm running out of time if I'm going to take it. I'm planning on Friday for another long weekend.

Didn't do much this weekend despite the beautiful weather. Sunday I spent time with my folks as usual; we walked to lunch then shopping then back to their house. All about probably 1 to 1 1/2 miles round trip I'd say. I got some sun.

Southern California Storm Damage

With all the news lately about the subzero weather and snow that the Midwest and East coast areas are experiencing, we shouldn't forget that Southern California has its share of devastating weather also.

This is a photo illustrating the excessive damage caused to a home from a west coast storm that is passing through the Southern California area this weekend. It really makes you cherish what you have, and reminds us not to take life for granted.
