Sunday Favorite: 96

I love this picture...there's nothing like jumping into the arms of the man you love and giving him a big smooch. You can tell this isn't just sex or making out...this is PASSION.

We finally had rain in the LA area! It started sometime last night - possibly about 9pm where I am. I noticed about 9:15pm. It rained fairly good off and on throughout the night. The driveway is still damp as is the patio. But it as raised the humidity. I seriously feel as if I'm in the deep South. Poor Winston is having to put up not only with the humidity but with his Daddy fanning himself, saying "I declare!" When it gets like this my inner Scarlet O'Hara comes out.

I accomplished something yesterday that I've been needing/wanting to do but kept putting it off. I finally changed my kitchen faucet! Shortly after I moved into my house - within the first couple of years, I'm sure - I had changed the original faucet to a Delta. Because I have "hard water" that causes calcification and rust rather easily, the Delta faucet eventually started rusting and leaking. So I bought a new faucet for much less than I paid for the Delta...and yesterday switched it out. Now this new one is far more simple than the Delta. But it will do. And I'm proud of myself for changing it out without help. I usually run into some kind of problem. I really need to learn to do more things for myself. The feeling of accomplishment is nice.

Tonight I start taking care of my sister's menagerie for a few days while she attends a conference. Two cats, a dog, two tortoises, and nine turtles. I don't mind taking care of the cats and dog but the reptiles are a little involved with their feeding routine. Thankfully she wrote everything down. Oh and I got a little lecture on the difference between tortoises and turtles. OY! It was rather interesting though when we walked out to the turtle enclosure - they all came running out of the grass, heads held high! Okay maybe "running" isn't the right term but they do move faster than expected.

Last night I watched Disney's latest princess offering, "Frozen." It was okay. I liked Sven the reindeer. I was a bit confused because I know Disney has been pushing the Elsa character but the story really is about the sister. They should have gone ahead with the original evil Snow Queen approach rather than trying to make her a sympathetic character. And I could have done without the stupid snowman Olaf. But what can I say...it's formulaic Disney. "Brave" was far better.

That's about all I have for this Sunday.

Animals Sing Jingle Bells

Hilarious....I played it over and over and laughed and laughed. Winston approves as well.

Men and Their Pets

In Now, Voyager, the Gladys Cooper character (Mrs. Vale) asks the Bette Davis character (Miss Charlotte Vale) what she plans to do. Charlotte's response is "Get a cat and a parrot and live in single blessedness."

There's nothing like a pet. They provide a warmth and love that no man can. And the more men I meet the more I like my cat. ;) Pets are therapeutic, being known for lowering blood pressure and relieving stress. If you're single and petless I recommend a pet. You'll be glad you did. BEHR HUGS!!

Man and His Animals

Man has always had a special relationship with animals, which is how it should be. Please remember: your pets rely on you to take proper care of them. Aside from spaying/neutering and vaccinating your pet, please remember to include your pets in your home emergency plan.

HSUS

If there is one thing I cannot tolerate it is cruelty to animals. Sure, accidents happen but for those out there who deliberately harm, mutilate, and kill innocent animals I think the charge should be a felony, not a misdemeanor and the punishment should be death.

Case in point: an Ohio firefighter (!) has been indicted for shooting his two dogs because he [supposedly] couldn't afford to board them when he went on a cruise. He took them into his basement, suspended them from a pipe, and shot them at least 11 times. He then wrapped the bodies in plastic and dumped them in the trash bin behind his fire station.

This monster was sentenced to 90 days jail time (to be served in 10-day increments) over a two year period. He has to pay $4500 restitution, perform 200 hours of community service, and had to write a letter of apology to be published in the local newspaper and the International Association of Firefighters magazine. WTF?! He is also forbidden from being in contact with companion animals for five years. He got off lightly. he should be shot. Eleven times sounds good.

Humans should be the caretakers of animals. In religious texts it states that man was given dominion over animals. Many believe that this just means we are superior when in actuality it means we have a responsibility to care for these innocent creatures.

I have supported the Humane Society for years. The opening sentence in their statement of nonviolence and mission statement say: “The very foundation of The Humane Society of the United States is to protect animals from suffering and cruelty caused by human actions.” The HSUS does its utmost to prevent cruelty, provide resources for animals in the event of disasters, provide educational and adoption opportunities and is an advocate for animals. And not just cats and dogs, but for farm animals and wild animals as well.

If you are an animal lover, such as myself, I encourage you to check out the HSUS website http://www.hsus.org/ and consider supporting this admirable organization.
