By now you have all heard the news that in the past few weeks far too many teenagers have committed suicide after being bullied by their homophobic peers.

Hopefully by now you've all seen Ellen Degeneres' video clip in which she says that one suicide is tragic but due to the five this past week, it's a crisis. She is right.

When I was a teenager, I wasn't fully aware of myself until my later teenage years. But today's kids are so much more in tune with themselves and the world around them. The haters know and understand what they are hating; and the GLBT youth are more conscious and aware at a younger age than many of us were. As adults - as gay adults - we have a responsibility to help protect the GLBT youth to avoid these senseless deaths.

And so I've made a donation to The Trevor Project. I urge you to consider making a donation. It doesn't have to be a lot, whatever you can afford. Every little bit helps.

Musings on a Muggy Morning

By now you all have pretty much figured out that I have a broad range of attraction: furry, smooth, bearded, goateed, mustachioed, clean shaven, muscular, voluptuous, white, black, brown, tall, short...but I always ALWAYS come back to the dark haired, olive-skinned, furry bearded man. Like Bret here, today's featured man. I think it's the whole "opposites" attract...I'm not that furry, I'm pasty white, and my hair is grey. What hair I have, that is. The fact that Bret here has a tattoo and is a nice guy (we chatted once) just adds to the attraction. My ex fell into this category. Well maybe not the nice guy bit. A man who made my ex jealous by paying attention to me fell into this category. And that adolescent fantasy included such a man.

What is it that makes one type more attractive than another? Why are there preferences for what we find attractive? Is it because looks are usually the first thing we have to go on? I know someone who only is attracted to black men. I know someone who doesn't care for Hispanic/Latino men. I know someone who only likes redheads (he's straight). I find it curious, these rules of attraction.

Behr Pick: Friday Fur and Muscle

Need I really say anything about today's featured demigod?

After work yesterday I met up with a friend. We've been trying to get together for lunch but it just hasn't worked out due to respective schedules (he works in downtown too). I suggested drinks after work since I've been working late and I know he usually leaves his office about 5; he thought that sounded like a good idea. When we firmed up the day/time he suggested coffee in lieu of alcohol. Oddly enough we just talked and never had coffee! It was good to see him despite the topic of conversation. I don't want to betray trust so suffice it to say he and his BF had a bad incident this past weekend and he needed to talk.

So today is my deadline for the project I've been stressing over for the past couple of weeks. Needless to say, I don't think I'll make it. If I stay at my desk and work on nothing else I might be able to get it done but I get interruptions and have other tasks to accomplish. I decided to not stress out over it and to get done what I can get done.

This weekend is the unofficial Gay Days - or Red Shirt Day - at Disneyland. I haven't completely decided whether to go or not. It will be an opportunity to use my annual pass before it expires (I haven't decided if I'm going to renew). The atmosphere and the group that I usually hang out with - bears you know - has changed dramatically over the years. It's just not the same as it was a few years ago. Change can be good but there are some things we'd rather didn't change.

Other than that, not much else on tap for the weekend other than the usual chores. Good grief I'm boring!
