Behr Movie: Breakfast on Pluto

Last night I watched Breakfast on Pluto that I got from Netflix. It's the story of an Irish transvestite - Patrick "Kitten" Braden - who searches for his mother and ends up finding his father.

It stars Cillian Murphy as Kitten and boasts a cast that includes Liam Neeson, Brendan Gleeson, and Stephen Rea. The movie is based on the book by Patrick McCabe and is quite different from the novel, according to Wikipedia. The film was directed by Neil Jordan of The Crying Game fame. In the movie, the boy is left on the steps of the church to be found by the priest who promptly places the boy with a haranguing foster mother. The boy grows up to be an effeminate boy who garners the ire of most and yet also garners the life long love and support of friends who accept him for who he is. Her many adventures include joining the IRA, being befriended by a glam rocker, moving to England, becoming a prostitute, getting arrested for an IRA bombing, working as a character at a children's park, working in a peep show, and finally meeting her biological mother. She finds her way back to Ireland and her biological father and best female friend who is pregnant. The movie does have one drawback in my opinion and that is most people recognize that Kitten is indeed male and yet they are either attracted to or accept her with little violence or discrimination. It perhaps could be the time period (60s-70s). On a scale of 1 to 5, I would rate it a 4 or 4.5. It's a little long at 129 minutes but is quite entertaining. In the Extras on the DVD, Neil Jordan says that it is "oddly uplifting" and that it is.

Number 1

Hate the video but love the song, which is mine for someone near and dear to my heart.

Walk out into velvet
Nothing more to say
You're my favorite moment
You're my Saturday

Friday Eve

I always look forward to Thursdays because it's the last day of the work week where I'm required to wear a tie at work. I know it's a little thing, really, but when in the middle of a heatwave it is definitely a plus.

Besides...this guy is hot and this gave me an excuse to post the picture.

Life is going fairly well; this week calmed down for me as we had low enrollment in the 3-day class I was scheduled to conduct so I cancelled it. I did do a couple of system sessions yesterday for a specific department...imagine my surprise when one of the hottest chubs I've ever seen walked through the door. Dang! His belly was so big his tie didn't even come near the top of his pants. I wanted to hug him! Turns out he's the son of female company colleague who I've been working with in another department. On top of that he was very nice.

Today I'm having lunch with a friend I haven't seen in a while. I'm so excited! It's never about the food; I really enjoy his company and his clear, objective outlook on life.

So there you have it - a quick update. What's going on in YOUR world?

Cool Me Down, Heat Me Up

I'm making a list of things to do to cool off during this So Cal heatwave...showering with two hunky bears is at the top of the list.

But that might only lead to something even hotter than the heatwave.

What do you think?

Behr Crush: Alex Di Dio

You may recognize him as "Simon" from the BearCity movies....

Look! Is that...yes...chest hair!

Who knew he was so adorable?

Who knew he could look so sexy!

What does his shirt say?

I wouldn't mind feasting on him!

Olympic Beef

I'm sure those of us watching the first week of the Olympics have been swooning over the athletic beef. Presented for your consideration is Charles Edward Betts, who participated in the 84kg Greco-Roman Wrestling matches. He unfortunately lost in the 1/8 round. But I have this to say: he could flip me all over any day of the week! He looks quite bearish or cubbish at least. Click the picture to enlarge.

I've been enjoying the Olympics...almost to the detrimental point of not getting enough sleep. It's really important this week for me to be on schedule as I am traveling to our South Bay the next three days to conduct training. Luckily I can take public transportation so I don't have to make the 2 hour drive.

That's about all I have for now -

Topsy-Turvy Week

It's been a topsy-turvy week for me...no matter how I looked at it, I was looking at it wrong. It started with Tuesday feeling like Wednesday - and it just continued on. Today is Friday but yesterday felt like Friday! To add insult to injury, I'm doing a quick two-hour training today - on a Friday! I never train on Friday!

I think  a lot of it is because I've been slammed at work. I may have mentioned that one of my colleagues is out on medical leave and so all the technical training has fallen in my lap. I'm up to the challenge, oh definitely. It's just that I've been receiving lots of requests for training outside the norm. Next week I begin a hectic schedule of training a certain group of colleagues; the entire group will take 16 three-hour training sessions over eight days. In between I also have other classes to train. I already have two other groups scheduled for two different dates in September.

It doesn't help that I cannot believe we're in August already. The Olympics have been a nice distraction although I'm not certain I care for the NBC coverage; why are all the popular events broken up and spread out throughout the evening into the late hours? While I think male swimmer bodies are hot I'm a little done with all of the prelims, semi-finals, and finals. Too much swimming, imo.

Wherever you are, whatever you're doing, may your Friday be quick and painless so we can get to the weekend.

PS: Hypocritical comment: Congratulations to Tyler Clary on his Gold medal for the Men's 200M Back. It's nice when there's an unexpected winner!
