Behr Recommendation

Tonight while rooting through the refrigerator to find something for dinner, I saw my nearly empty bottle of wine. While I cooked my dinner (nothing fancy - I won't bore you with that), I had the half glass that remained. It's so scrumptious that I thought I would share.

It's a delicious Sauvignon Blanc by Geyser Peak, a Sonoma winery. When chilled, it has a crisp bite to it, perfect for hot weather consumption. You can taste the lime, grapefruit, honeydew melon and lemongrass. I purchase it at Trader Joe's. It runs about $9.99 a bottle; a bit pricey but not bad as it will impress your guests. I'm no wine expert but this is one of my favorite summer white wines from one of my favorite wineries. I highly recommend it.

Check out Geyser Peak for more information on the winery and their products.

Behr Pick: Beef, Wine, and Remembrance

So this past week when I was in La Jolla, which is near San Diego, I thought about a certain someone because he lives there. I thought about how - if I weren't so damned stubborn and sensitive - I maybe could have called and crashed at his place rather than paying for a hotel and thus saving the company more money. I thought about driving by his place just to see if he still has his ridiculous vehicle. He had bought a particular trendy vehicle and it totally looked like a lesbian car. Just sayin'.

I think he's on my mind because this is the weekend anniversary of our break-up. The days and dates match up exactly as they did in 2005. Yeah...it sucks we broke up on February 13. And in Napa of all places. Okay maybe it was technically Sonoma I don't know. But I know that this weekend holds meaning for me. Not necessarily good meaning just meaning. (For the uninitiated, read my three part series Love, Not Love.)

In fact...I've been thinking...always a dangerous activity. For my birthday in 2005 he gave me a bottle of Violetta, which is perhaps the most divine dessert wine to ever cross my lips. It comes from the Grgich Hills winery. I've been saving it for a special occasion...and I'm still waiting. So I'm considering drinking it in remembrance this weekend. Oh relax...it's a 375 ml bottle. And here from the website about when to open a bottle of wine:

The late harvest Violetta, because it is made from grapes rich with botrytis, has a high residual sugar as well as nice acidity and typically is at its best three to five years after the harvest but continues to deepen in color and to develop those wonderful apricot and honey flavors for another 10 or more years.

The bottle I have is a 2000 Late Harvest. So I had best consume it, don't you think? I think so too. Best to get it done and let it be over with.

"To absent friends!" as Frank N. Furter would say.

Sunday Favorite 13

I must be in a romantical mood because today's picture just seemed perfect.

I had a really fantastic Saturday and am definitely feeling the effects today. A friend and I went to Pasadena (home of the infamous Rose Parade and Rose Bowl) to shop; he needed to get a present for his brother's birthday.

After shopping and going into a few shops we stopped at a little tea place and had tea and sandwiches. This really surprised me because although I enjoy a nice pot of tea I didn't think he was that type. We had the most adorable waiter, which only added to the fun.

Later we met up at Disneyland; he was in the vicinity for his brother's birthday dinner. While I was waiting I rode a couple of rides at California Adventure; we then strolled over to Disneyland and watched the holiday fireworks show. (I also saw some other friends, which was nice.)

After fireworks my friend and I went to a little place he knows call The Twisted Vine. Basically it's a wine bar. We had a really nice Cabernet (I believe it was a California wine), a tasty Shiraz from Australia, and a mini-meat/cheese platter. Although the wine selection seemed better than our usual wine bar and the food was top notch, it was crowded and noisy, something that I think damages the experience. I'm sure we'll go back though. The bar man called him a cab and I drove home. No worries dear readers; by the time the cab arrived for my friend I'd sobered up. Eating a baguette of bread by myself helped too! There was talk of his going home with me but it just wasn't feasible due to my Sunday responsibilities. Thankfully, he understands duty to family.

It was a very nice day and the perfect way to end my vacation. Back to work tomorrow; I'm not looking forward to that! I hope everyone had a good if not great post-Thanksgiving weekend.
